Chill Spell In the past 48 hours, Eastern Uttar Pradesh, including the state capital Lucknow, experienced a notable drop of three to 5 degrees Celsius in minimum temperatures. Mohammed Danish, the in-charge of the Lucknow Met Office, confirms this cooling trend.

Across the state, the weather is expected to remain dry, accompanied by shallow to moderate fog at isolated locations. Bareilly recorded the lowest temperature at 7 degrees, a significant 3.9 degrees below the normal range. Following closely are Najibabad at 7.8 degrees and Muzaffar Nagar at 8.8 degrees.

Lucknow witnessed a drop in minimum temperature from 15.3 degrees on Friday to 11.1 degrees on Sunday. The day’s highest temperature reached 24.4 degrees. The forecast for Lucknow suggests shallow to moderate fog in the morning, clearing up later, with Monday’s expected maximum and minimum temperatures around 24 and 11 degrees, respectively.

The Meteorological Department attributes the temperature variations to the influence of an active western disturbance and the remnants of a cyclone. As these weather systems wane, the surface-level wind direction shifts to westerly, enhancing radiative cooling. This effect is particularly pronounced in Eastern Uttar Pradesh, including Lucknow.

Dry and chilly winds from the cold deserts and Himalayan regions are set to intensify, potentially leading to a further 2-degree drop in maximum temperatures over the next 2-3 days. Simultaneously, reduced atmospheric humidity and the impact of robust surface westerly winds, reaching speeds of 20-22 km per hour, may result in shallow to moderate fog during the mornings.
