CBI arrests senior engineer in Varanasi for taking Rs 2 lakh bribe | Lucknow News
LUCKNOW: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a senior divisional engineer (NER) in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh from a complainant.
A case was registered by the CBI on October 1 against the accused, Senior Divisional Engineer (Sr. DEN) Satyam Kumar Singh of Varanasi, following allegations that a private firm owned by the complainant had been awarded two tenders worth approximately Rs 4 crore for the maintenance of railway tracks from Thawe to Chhapra on July 25.
It was alleged that the accused demanded a bribe of ₹2 lakh from the complainant and threatened to obstruct the work and not pass his bills in the future unless the bribe amount was paid.
The CBI laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed while he was demanding and accepting the undue advantage of Rs 2 lakh from the complainant in Varanasi.
The accused was arrested and will be produced before the Court of Learned Special Judge, CBI court no. 3, Lucknow.
Searches were conducted by the CBI at the residential premises of the accused. The investigation is ongoing.
