Solar Power Plant: First solar expressway in Uttar Pradesh planned along Bundelkhand e-way | Lucknow News
Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh is set to get the first solar expressway in the country. A total of 1,500 acres along the Bundelkhand Expressway has been identified for the project.
The Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) held a stakeholder consultation meeting on Friday in which two-dozen companies participated. Chief secretary and CEO of UPEIDA Manoj Kumar Singh took questions from the participants to offer them clarity on the authority’s vision to establish a project that has the potential to supply 450 megawatts of renewable energy, sufficient to cater to daily needs of 60,000 households.
Industrial development minister Nand Gopal Nandi assured a group of private executives that govt is working on their suggestions to make the project financially viable. A proposal to set up the project would be presented before the cabinet for approval and after that global bidding process would be initiated.
An investment of Rs 2,500 crore would be required to set up the project through private participation.
Chairman, UP Power Corporation Limited, Ashish Kumar Goel told the executives that they have to prepare the power-purchase agreement considering that UP requires more electricity at night. “Storage of the power generated in the day would have to be planned accordingly. Currently, we are dealing with 30,000 megawatts of peak demand and the gap between day and night demand could go up to 10,000 megawatts,” said Goel.
Additional chief executive officer of the authority SP Shahi said, “We have taken care to keep the assets, equipment and machines set up for the project secure from theft. A three-tier security structure would be provided,” Shahi added.
