Richa Chadha drew inspiration from Meena Kumari’s ‘Pakeezah’ for her position in ‘Heeramandi’

MUMBAI: Bollywood actress Richa Chadha, who’s gearing up for the discharge of her upcoming streaming collection ‘Heeramandi – The Diamond Bazaar’, has revealed that she referred to the enduring efficiency of legendary actress Meena Kumari to craft her character within the collection.

Within the collection, Richa essays the position of Lajjo, a courtesan with a charming persona. She shared that she discovered inspiration in Meena Kumari’s portrayal of Shahibjaan within the timeless traditional ‘Pakeezah’. She studied Meena Kumari’s character, drawing parallels between Sahibjaan and Lajjo.

Speaking about her preparations for the character, Richa mentioned: “Fastidiously observing, studying from and taking classes from Meena Kumari ji’s character in ‘Pakeezah’ was a really enriching and deeply remodeling expertise for me forward of taking pictures for ‘Heeramandi’. In ‘Paakezah’, Meena Kumari’s character has a sure tragic depth and complexity that resonated with Lajjo, the character that I play within the present. I labored on the voice and diction, whereas learning Meena Jis work, to the purpose of imitation typically.”

“I felt like I used to be strolling within the footsteps of a cinematic legend, and it was an honor to pay tribute to Meena Kumari ji by my portrayal of Lajjo,” she added.

‘Heeramandi – The Diamond Bazaar’ marks the webseries debut of auteur Sanjay Leela Bhansali, and delves into the world of courtesans.
