Alaska incident: ‘Our mistake’, Boeing CEO vows transparency after 737 Max door blowout


‘The planemaker should come clean with its shortcomings’, stated Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun because it grapples with a security incident that has renewed questions over the standard of its manufacturing. 

Throughout a companywide assembly at its 737 manufacturing facility close to Seattle, Calhoun advised Boeing staff, “We’re going to method this — No. 1 — acknowledging our mistake. We’re going to method it with 100% and full transparency each step of the way in which.”

Calhoun had advised staff earlier that the all-hands assembly would deal with Boeing’s “response to this accident, and reinforcing our deal with and our dedication to security, high quality, integrity and transparency.” 

Alaska Air Group Inc. and United Airways Holdings Inc. have each found different 737 Max 9 jets with unfastened bolts after the Federal Aviation Administration grounded the Max 9 and ordered carriers to examine the planes. 

The company on Tuesday stated that formal inspections have but to start out as Boeing is revising directions for the checks after receiving suggestions, and the entire affected planes will stay idle till the regulator deems them secure.  

On January 6, a window broke on an Alaska Airways plane flying from Portland to Ontario within the US, inflicting a lack of cabin strain and forcing the pilot to make an emergency touchdown again at Portland Worldwide Airport. The aircraft was carrying 174 passengers and 6 crew members. No person was injured within the incident.
