KANPUR: Communal pressure prevailed within the Maitha Bazar space of Kanpur Dehat after a young person who was dressed as a member of Hanuman’s Vanar Sena in a shobha yatra was poured with sizzling tea for allegedly selecting up a banana from a fruit vendor’s cart. The incident occurred on Tuesday whereas a FIR was lodged on Wednesday.
Vishwa Hindu Parishad activists and Bajrang Dal volunteers reached the spot and created a ruckus, demanding strict motion towards the wrongdoer. Following this, the fruit vendor, recognized as Shanu Ahmad (27), was arrested late on Wednesday.
The complainant, Surendra Kumar, 18, suffered burns and was rushed to hospital by others who had been a part of the shobha yatra on Tuesday. “The accused has been arrested and booked underneath IPC’s sections 323 (punishment for voluntarily inflicting damage), 504 (punishment for insulting somebody deliberately to impress him/her) and 506 (felony intimidation),” mentioned Shivli police inspector Shiv Narain Singh.
“Nevertheless, the accused mentioned that he didn’t throw the tea on him with any incorrect intention, nevertheless it as a substitute fell on {the teenager} throughout a scuffle,” the inspector added.
He mentioned that the state of affairs has been restored to regular after heavy deployment of police power within the space.
